[7/24/2012] NEOPS Mobilizes Donations to Benefit U.S. Troops in Afghanistan

Branford, CT – July 24, 2012 – New England Orthotic and Prosthetic Systems, LLC, or NEOPS, a Branford, CT-based orthotic and prosthetic patient-care service company with 30 clinics throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island recently arranged a supply of knee braces and similar orthotic devices to be delivered to US special forces troops on patrol in Afghanistan.

While supporting the troops is a patriotic duty for many, at NEOPS it gets more personal.  One of the employees at NEOPS has a nephew serving in the Army’s Special Forces in Afghanistan.  During patrols, the Special Forces team walk up to 15 miles per day along challenging terrain carrying heavy packs approaching 100 pounds.  As a result, many troops have encountered knee and joint problems.  NEOPS arranged a donation of knee braces and other orthotic devices earlier this year to help ease the pain these troops were experiencing.  The braces are made from a new high-tech material that wicks moisture and heat away from the body, crucial in the 100 degree-plus temperatures in Afghanistan.

When word got back how the braces NEOPS had donated were helping the soldier’s performance, and how the devices were being shared and providing relief to many more troops, senior management arranged for a more substantial donation to the entire squadron.  As one of the largest orthotic device providers in the US, NEOPS was able to successfully mobilize some of its suppliers like DJO Global and Otto Bock to contribute to the effort and support NEOPS’ charitable initiatives.

“NEOPS is committed to serving the needs of patients in our communities with effective, compassionate care.  We similarly want help those in need and are proud to lead the effort to mobilize action within our industry to support our brave men and women in uniform.  We thank our suppliers for their generous support in these efforts,” said Ron Manganiello, Chief Executive Officer of NEOPS  “Our clinicians have been involved in several charitable and humanitarian relief missions over the past few years including trips to Haiti, Honduras and Cuba.   While NEOPS is privileged to serve our patients with exceptional care, it is an honor to help the men and women of our armed forces who are performing under the most difficult of conditions.”
